Connect to Your True Center to Cultivate Community and Purpose: The Spiral of Connection #1

posted in: Community | 0

You might think that the first step to connecting to community would be to attend events or volunteer for a community project. But, contrary to what many believe, true connection actually begins within. To connect to greater purpose and meaning through true community, connect to your true center!

“It is only when we feel a sense of wholeness and integration within that we are able to express love and compassion to others and engage with the world around us,” says True Center executive director Eve Willson. “The place to start, when it comes to cultivating community, is with your true center and the heart of who you are.”

Self: Spiral of Connection to CommunityAlong the Spiral of Connection that includes five connection points to a deepening sense of community and belonging, the first point of connection is a connection to the True Self. Facilitating this connection to the authentic you lies at the very heart of True Center’s mission.

October events at True Center support you in cultivating community by beginning within. Opportunities range from several ongoing yoga series to workshops to help you uncover your hidden jewel and cultivate genuine happiness.

Hidden Barriers to Connecting to Your True Center and Your Most Authentic Self

In our society, we have become habituated to thinking and acting in self-centered or ego-centered ways. Especially in western world countries such as the United States, fierce independence and competition are valued and seen as the way to really get ahead.

Unfortunately, this mindset has its consequences and often show up as a sense of meaninglessness or lack of purpose, stress-related health problems, even in the environmental pollution we see. The key is to return to a sense of self-valuing and self-responsibility that is balanced with a value for the world around us.

“It is important to tend the whole garden so that the entire system is nurtured and flourishes. Because we are all connected we must not overlook any aspect of the whole or the entire system will suffer. To connect to community, connect to your true self.” ~ Eve Willson

3 Practical Ways to Begin to Cultivate Connection with Your True Self

Cultivating and tending to the whole garden of our lives does take effort. How can we take practical steps to connect to the true self for a deeper, more fulfilling experience of community?

#1—Practice regular self-care. Consider a weekly date with yourself. Just knowing you will set aside time to tend to your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being is a step in the right direction!

#2—Cultivate self-compassion. The next time you hear that voice in your head criticizing you for your latest mistake, turn the statement around into one that affirms your true self.

#3—Adopt a regular practice. Whether it is meditation, yoga, journaling, or an activity of your choice, add a consistent daily or weekly practice to your routine.
