True Peace Begins Within

We are actually living in a time of great possibility.

True and lasting peace in the world cannot be externally forced. Instead, true peace is naturally within each of us. We can experience it as we open our hearts to the truth of who we really are at the depths of our being. Together we will create a more peaceful world as we connect with our inner state of peace and then embody that in the world.

In your inner depths, at the ground of your being—this is where you can connect with the unity, love, wisdom, joy, and other essential qualities. Even in the most turbulent and tumultuous times, we can go within and connect with the calm stillness at our center.

Many of us have lost this connection because we have forgotten who we really are. When we lose our awareness of who we really are, our minds often become caught up in and embroiled in the outer chaos.

It can be all too easy to become influenced by others if you do not understand who you really are. In today’s world we are inundated with information… and disinformation. Hearing contrasting and often distorted messages can leave us feeling confused, ungrounded, and fearful. All of these can be obstacles to our peace of mind.

Conditions in the world are impermanent and constantly changing. When we can accept and embrace impermanence, rather than living in fear, we can learn to remain centered and grounded. From this place, we can choose to respond to and embrace change in ways that are life-affirming and natural.

We can experience true peace in the present moment. Practices may include:

  • mindfulness meditation
  • other forms of meditation
  • contemplative practices
  • connecting with nature
  • listening to music
  • making art
  • embodied practices
    • Yoga
    • Qi Gong
    • Tai Chi
    • Dance

These practices can strengthen our awareness and return us to our natural state of connection. They can allow us to naturally embody our innate and positive qualities. When we are experiencing the present moment it is impossible to ruminate the past or worry about the future.

Such practices are one way we can return to full presence. From this state of presence, we can more easily accept what is real in the moment, rather being held hostage to our troubling thoughts, negative emotions, dissatisfaction, and unease.

If we are experiencing turmoil, anger, or negativity, then we may reflect those qualities in our relationships and through the way we express ourselves in the world.

When we connect with our inner truth (our true self), we can become fonts of love, peace, joy, and wisdom. Connection within allows us  to gain insight to our true nature and its wisdom.

Rather than being constricted or bracing for the worst and reacting in fear, we can embody our natural inner qualities. When we connect with our inner truth, we are able to see with more clarity, wisdom, far-sightedness. Our perspective expands as we relax into the truth of who we really are with open-hearted awareness and trust.

The sharper clarity that comes from self-awareness connects you with a truth that is timeless and unchanging. This is the truth that flows from that deepest place within you.

With continued looking within, the spark of your truth will grow. That spark is sustained by the power of an inner truth that wants to express in the world.

The world needs each of us now more than ever. We all need each other. The challenges we face in the world can seem less so when we remember that we are connected as one humanity.

We are in this together. This realization of our shared journey can awaken compassion within us. As we realize what we have in common, we may be moved to respond to the suffering that we bear witness to—our own or the suffering of others.

  • May we each accept the warm invitation to self-remembrance that beckons to us to reconnect with the truth of who we really are.  Self-remembrance comes naturally with open-hearted curiosity and a desire for deeper self-understanding and self-awareness.
  • The remembrance of your truth opens you to the vast potential to live your life to the fullest, to allow a unique expression arising from your center. Through your remembrance you can experience deeper meaning and purpose in your life and help co-create a more peaceful and compassionate world for all to enjoy.
  • May we all heed the clarion call for loving action in the world.  If we want to transform a troubled world marked by divisiveness, disconnection, violence into a more thriving, peaceful, harmonious, and compassionate world, we must find the courage to move into the world and to carry with us a message of hope and love.
